coincidence?

pure coincidence? or does it have any meaning at all? YOU decide!

Pacquiao vs Morales after 13 days - Wowoweee stampede

Pacquiao vs Larios after 13 days - Mayon Volcano erupted

Pacquiao vs Barrera after 13 days - Glorietta 2 bombing

Pacquiao vs Marquez after 13 days- rice shortage

Pacquiao vs.Cotto after 13 days- Maguindanao massacre

what's next?

I first received this via mobile text messages. Upon reading the text message, it gave me goosebumps! I thought it was just another stupid text message. But then, my curiosity had bothered me to the extent that I finally asked myself.. "what if Pacquiao has been using this so called "anting-anting" in his every fight and all us will be the ones responsible to suffer the consequences? But I think this is just another stupid and silly "theory".

so.. what do you think?

obsessions, depressions, and pressures!

Whether we like it or not, time will come that we'll be able to encounter certain pressures in our life- most especially in the career we are part of!

pressures, depressions and obsessions I think those three are really bothering me
I cannot deny that I am really into pressures right now, both in school and out of school activities. My world doesn't belong to a typical teenage life- who goes by her friends anytime on Saturdays or Sundays. Somehow, I'm getting my way into the world of performing- where different kinds of talents get to meet each other and perform in front of the cheering crowd! Even on holidays where the rest of your friends got the time to sit their butts at home, but there we go- entertaining random people or conducting massive practices! Sometimes, the thought of it makes me thrill my nerves and feel blue in jealousy and envy! Sometimes I just hope to be the typical teenage girl. Part of the career is the thought that there's always someone within the group that can surpass your ability. The feeling wherein you just have to do your best but still your best wasn't good enough to regain the position. I admit, this thing really bothers me! In every field I am into, I always feel depressed that I into no good at all! That I was just part of the group for no special reason. Just plainly a member! From our school career to my extracurricular activities, I feel like I'm totally fading! Even though how much you try to impress the elders, you just can't! And it sucks! :[ Dreams and obsession.. I always dream to play variety of musical instruments! To be specific, " violin " is what I dream of! My first step on the grounds of my school, "Mandaue School for the Arts" was way back year2003 during my 3rd Grade in Elementary. I was so much amazed by group of kids playing the violin along the school quadrangle. It was the first time I was able to see the violin closely! It had such wonderful sound! From then on, I'm always looking forward to be able to play the violin someday! Days have come that my brother became part of the "Rondalla" at school and great musical opportunities came along his way! I was so glad he made it because it was the time where I was able to play the violin myself! It felt great! :]] But the thought that I could get better by just playing the basic " twinkle-twinkle variation " didn't work! Reading the musical notes written on the sheet music is my weakness! I could spend 10seconds of my life trying to figure out a single note written on it! It sucks, right?

Hell yeah! I suck! Thinking of all these heart-breaking concern makes it worse! But anyways, I trying to figure out some ways to get over all these non-sense! " There's always a rainbow after the rain ".. I'm trying to hold on into this line. That somehow, behind all these damn insecurities and depressions, something fruitful will leave a special remembrance in my quest!

thanks for reading! :] I just need some random people to read and hear me scream my words! YOU are much loved! Thanks for the time!

"Passionata"

" Passionata "

A concert that would leave it's mark on my unforgettable performances! The day that would leave a history in my mind. An event that would last a lifetime in my heart!

November 30 marks the spot! The concert was the best thing that ever happened for this month! First of all, the experience was very memorable! The people involve din the concert was really awesome and very amazing! These people really worked hard to achieve what they are right now- famous and talented! I was in great honor to be able to be a part of this event and to be able to work with all these people!

Second, was that I got the chance to meet the Asian Troubadours once again! The best thing is that I saw the "Jacob-look-a-like" violinist! He's such a cutie! Not just because He has really "cool" long hair but because He's so much friendly and smiling! How on Earth did he look like the wolf fictional character on one of those Saga Novels written by Stephenie Meyer? How on Earth? It's just an amazing fact! And I was really starstruck! Yeah! Admiration will deeply explain my feelings towards that adorable wolf-like musician! I just call him by the name of "Jacob Black" before I finally discovered that his real name is "Jake? "! Such a pure coincidence!

Third, was the bonding we spent with the alumni dancers, Ate Kathryn, Kuya Jovemar and Kuya Viktor and also our dance choreographer, Mr. Nino. It was really amazing!

And lastly, I was really happy that we were able to share and expose our talents to everyone who watche dthe concert and to our co-performers as well. I think it doesn't matter on how many dances we were able to dance during the conert but I think it's on how we enjoy and how we share our skills to others! I just do hope that we were able to impress the audiences and our co-performers as well.! And I'm crossing my fingers for another breath-taking performance with the Mandaue Children's Choir, Cebu Chamber Singers and the Asian Troubadours!

The best part I won't really miss to mention on this blog is when Jake gave me a CD with his sign! I barely can't believe it! It was when Ate Kathryn shouted to him that I have a crush on him! He then replied " Goodbye Eloise!". Then he walked before us and Ate Kath pointed me out saying, " That's Eloise!". He signaled his hand saying, "wait!". We all paused, not even sure if we heard it right! We just paused and wonder what will happen next! To our surprise he brought a CD of their orchestra and a marker on his other hand saying, " can you spell out your name". I was speechless! Ate Kathryn then replied for me. " E-L-O-I-S-E". He wrote something on the CD and handed the CD to me! I don't know what to act but I immediately took the CD, not even sure If I was able to thank him for that! But I was really happy! I can't forget this thing! I opened the CD and saw what we wrote. It says: " Eloise! thanx! love Jake!". I like to scream out loud! :D

P.S. Yeha right! It's not just admiration. Crush would best describe it! :]

To Jake: I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you'll love me! ^_^

Libera " angel voices"

Libera Boys Chorale

it was a great pleasure meeting those awesome and gorgeous talented guys from London! It was indeed a very nice experience and one of the unforgettable moments.

It all started with the reception held at the Casino Espanol last October 27, 2009. Our school's dance company was invited to entertain these talented fellows. At the end of our repertoire, we taught them how to dance our very own "Sinulog dance". It was heart warming to see them enjoy the dance as we all shouted "Viva Senior.. Pit Senior. I had this one little kid named Henry whom I taught. He's so cute! I also have this ultimate crush, Jonathan Barrington. He almost looked like Daniel Radcliffe on Harry Potter! There's this Little Ben Philipp who gave us his facebook account! He's so kind! There's also Tom Cully who almost looked like the small version of Taylor Lautner in Sharkboy and Lavagirl movie. All of them were really amazing. At the end of the reception, the Arts Council gave us free tickets for their concert on the following day.

I can't barely sleep that day! I was deeply amused by these gorgeous faces. I just can't help but to think of what will be happening on their concert the next day. Of course, I was hoping to meet and greet these guys for the second time!

The following day was the bomb! I'm a certified LBC ( Libera Boys Chorale ) fan! The concert was really heavenly! These guys are the cutest fallen angels ever! My nerves were really out of their places. Great voices.. so heavenly and angelic, so pure! I just can't get enough of this group. I'll be their biggest fan, I'll follow them until they'll love me!

On the later part of their concert, they had a surprise number for all of their audiences. They sang " Bayan ko". They almost made me cry! I just can't explain the feeling upon hearing them sing such a lovely song! I'll be expecting to hear them sing it one more time! I'll never get tired listening to them!

I'll surely miss these guys!

Libera Boys Chorale

Libera Boys Chorale live in CEBU!

Yesterday, October 27 was the awesome-est day ever! We had a performance in Casino Espanol to welcome the Libera Boys Chorale fresh from London! I never thought they were so cute as hell! I mean, we really got starstruck and we were totally insane!

All hail Libera Boys Chorale! All hail these cute gentlemen.

I was glad to talk to some of them- three of them though! One was the cute little Henry who was 5 years old, Little Ben Philipp who gave us his facebook account and the angelic and Harry Potter/ Daniel Radcliff look alike, Jonathan Barrington!

I've got some pictures of them! Only a few though! I was very much glad to see their amused faces as we entertained them with our rural suite!

I love these guys!

I'll be one of ther biggest fans!

P.S. I'm very much excited to see these guys perform on their concert this evening at the Waterfront, Cebu!

1970's Fashion- "we rock the disco lights"

We had just conducted our 2009 Fashion Walk for the Juinor level in highschool with the theme: 1970's fashion. Everybody gave their best on the runway trying to impress everyone in the audience and the most respective judges.

Early this morning we reached school with nervous condition. Our wicked adviser conducted her first period class. She even gave an essay type of test! She was freakishly out of her senses! Her inconsiderable concerns made her turn out more like an enemy- not our adviser! But luckily we had finally got enough time during our third period when our Arts teacher as well as our Fashion Walk organizer had given us the freedom to decorate the stage for the upcoming event. After an hour and so, we had proceeded to our respective rooms and started beautifying ourselves. I had my curlers on! we had our remaining last two subjects- Science and Filipino, respectively! We all rushed ourselves by the time the clock struck 12:30pm! At 1 we will be having our Science and Math competitions which will approximately end after an hour and which will obviously eat much of our time, most especially to us who will be part of the fashion walk! Hard-headed as I am, I hid myself in the classroom and continued my vanity time! By 3pm, we started the event!

"We rock the disco light" and we sure did! Too bad I was not on the mood to enjoy every single moment of the show. Due to several factors, due to some annoying and stupid people.. they have turned my light mood into gray! I hate them! And there was this alumni whom I really hated ever since and I hate seeing her again.

We had received a lot of positive feedbacks after the show. It was indeed a very successful one! We had made another history in our FASO or the Fashion Walk Association and Student's Organization .

Here are some of my pics during the fashion walk.. more of these will be uploaded to my facebook account:

It's a story between a 14 year old Junior high student and a self-proclaimed computer lizard, Shane Lizette Hale who fell in love with a mystery online buddy with a user name of xoxopeterpanxoxo. It's a story of love and friendship and the consequences at risks when friendship is traded for love.

Till here! I'll be posting more updates of the story SOON! :))

Vampire Love #4

The final post! I love the story and it's really great for Twilight Saga fans! I would just like to give much credits to http://www.bookbyyou.com for such amazing story, Vampire Kisses where you can have it personalized. Purchasing online is a MUST! haha!

Peter the first bite...

Peter looked at Eloise, blue eyes bright with passion; his hands shook. “Are you sure?”
She took his face in her hands, drew him near for a kiss as she gazed into his blue eyes. His fangs fully extended; she traced them with her tongue, loving the taste of him. “I am.” It felt like a vow. “I love you.” Eloise ran her fingers through his dark brown hair then pulled him to her.
He stood it as long as he could, then another moment longer. But finally he had to move, or come undone.
Peter trailed kisses along her collarbone, nibbled her earlobe, making his way to the nape of her neck. Eloise moaned beneath his attention, the sound making him shake with yearning, thirst, desire, and love. He hesitated for one eternal moment, fangs extended to their full length, throbbing, dripping the essence of his need onto Eloise, her perfect skin glistening in the dim light. Slowly, but with nothing of uncertainty – he bit down not quite tenderly, knowing she would enjoy the feel of his teeth – but carefully to cause no pain. His fangs sank within her, pressed home, revealing incredible sensations for both lovers, a new consummation. Her heartbeat raced through them both. Eloise kept her back straight and her shoulders remained still, but her thighs and hips rolled sensuously as music moved through her and her blood sang...

Vampire Love #3

Third post! haha! ENJOY!

Peter has vampire lust...

Peter sighed. He longed to go to Eloise, to comfort her, to caress her, but he could not, and so he remained outside, just below her window, watching and listening. He thought of her silky black hair and dancing blue eyes. His mouth filled with the bittersweet taste of longing. The first flush of dawn chased him away, but before he left, he thrust a note beneath her window sash.

I have watched from the shadows;
you are brighter than sunlight
.

It might have been more poetic than literal, but he meant it truly; hers was a warmth that would not burn him to ash – though it did seem to have seared its way into his heart.

Vampire Love #2

Another story. And yes, this is still connected with the previous post I had posted. But this time, the scene will be with my best friend, Kelsey!

NOTE: Kelsey is just a fictional character and not related to me in real life.

FUN TRIVIA: I like the name Kelsey and I wished Kelsey was added to my name! haha!

so here it is! ENJOY!

Eloise and Kelsey : a little intellectual repartee...

A lascivious grin was spoiled by the frothy mustache Kelsey wore; cross-eyed, she glared at it, twisting up her mouth, remnants of her latte still clinging to her lips.
“Do stop licking your lips that way; some man might get the right idea about you, and then where would you be?” Eloise was only half kidding, blue eyes ablaze.
“Where every cat longs to be, my sweet innocent little bookworm. Completely in the cream.” She batted her eyelashes outrageously making Eloise laugh.
“So, your date last night?”
“Oh, it was perfect. A perfect catastrophe, Kelsey grinned. “I told you he was in the adult education program, right?” She waited for Eloise to nod, all-the-while choking on her own laughter. “Well, we finally got around to talking about what he studies.” Giggles began to emerge, making her slur her words. “That yummy little Brad-Pitt-in-Thelma-and-Louise I was drooling over is here studying to become a priest!”
“Oh, no!” Eloise sat back and burst into laughter of her own. “What did you do?”
“Oh, I merely suggested that an in-depth knowledge of temptation and sin might help in his work. I even offered to give him a guided tour.”
“You didn’t!” It was purely rhetorical; knowing Kelsey, Eloise was quite sure she had. “What did he say?”
“I thought I heard ‘get thee behind me’, but he was running the other way, so I could be wrong.”
If Eloise hadn’t already finished her drink, she’d have choked...

Vampire Love #1

I just found this personalized vampire novel and decided to have a short preview. Since it's personalized, I have my name, as the heroine and my "Mr. Fantasy" as my hero! haha!

So Here's the story! Enjoy!

Eloise and Peter meet at the library...
Spying a dusty red binding on the lower shelf, Eloise pulled at the tightly wedged volume. Unbeknownst to her, her jostling had caused a book to dislodge and tumble from its precarious position on the top shelf. Then she heard it – the sound of a sudden movement and leather against flesh. She looked up, surprised.
“What?” her blue eyes widened as she took in the sight.
“If I startled you, my apologies.” The man in dark silk smiled at her through electric blue eyes and then reached up toward the skewed shelf, adjusted it, and returned the book. His voice was like his clothing, soft, rich, almost beckoning. The dim light fell gently on his dark brown hair and shoulders. Impossibly wide shoulders...
Eloise felt her heart skip a beat; how picturesque. His arms seemed not to stretch as he reached to resettle the shelf. Watching from below, comprehension dawned, she tucked her black hair behind her ears in nervousness. Ah, the noise. She eyed the angle, and a shudder wracked her body. The whole shelf could have toppled were it not for this curious stranger. She had to clear her throat before she could speak, her mind filled with images of heavy, sharp-cornered objects landing on her head. “Thanks for the rescue,” Eloise said. Then with a grin added, “Quick hands.”
“Only when there is need, I assure you.” Peter Pan smiled, teeth reflecting bright in the dusty air, those broad shoulders casting a shadow over Eloise. He nodded in what might almost have been considered a bow and then turned sideways and was gone. One moment there, the next he’d vanished as though he’d never been...

Note: Original Title: Vampire Kisses. Check it out! And try it! Love it? you can also purchase it! :))

I feel so EMO-ish

I feel so EMO-ish!

Okay! Fine! For the last time, I admit I was an EMO! I was Emo. Got it?

So, notice I marked the word "was" on bold- meaning: past!

But somehow, I still feel like emo-ish sometimes! I kinda feel rejected and out of this place and the only thing that can understand what I'm feeling is.. 'myself'. It's pretty sad! Sometimes you look like you fit in and everybody adores you and everybody makes a good friend of you but then, something is simply invisible to the naked eyes of everyone. Something where only myself can feel and understand. I think it's the feeling where you feel so damn insecure of all the good things happening to the people around you; of all those stupid impossibilities and of all those damn pretty stuffs! No matter how hard I try to be one of them, I just can't.

I think another reason why I feel so emo-ish these days is because of being addicted of wanting something unattainable. It's dreaming of the impossible. It's dreaming of him. This stupid infatuation really suck! But I just can't get my stupid heart out of it. I wonder why I will most likely chose to be in front of the computer everyday than to flirt on bunch of stupid looking guys on the neighborhood (-which I'm not really going to do!). This stupid admiration of this Mr. Peter Pan is creating a new addiction within me! I just don't know how long this feeling will last. I hope this will not stop. I hope the feeling won't stop. But the addiction? I don't know. Whenever I still have this feeling, the addiction will always be there! I like the feeling of admiring him.. but not the addiction!

I feel sad not being able to talk to him. I'm crazy! I feel insecure of the people who most likely belong to his kind. I know I'm stupid!

I just wanna quote this line:

" He's just the perfect reason for the tears in my heart. The simple explanation for the tears and the scar. He's the best in my fantasy but never in reality. He's my perfect fantasy! "

Travessia

I was listening to variety of music on youtube when I suddenly remembered one of our "pas de deux" in Ballet.. I really don't know the title of the song.. I only knew that it was talking about bridges.. Recently, I have heard Sitti Navaro a Filipino singer, sang this song. Luckily, I found out that the original title of the song was "Travessia" which means "crossing-over". I'm so much glad that I found it because the song was really nice! But the version was not the same version we had during the dance..

NOTE: pas de deux means "dance for two".. so it's a partner dance and it's somehow romantic! LAWL!

Here's the lyrics:

I have crossed a thousand bridges
In my search for something real
There were great suspension bridges
Made like spiderwebs of steel
There were tiny wooden trestles
And there were bridges made of stone
I have always been a stranger
And I've always been alone
There's a bridge to tomorrow
There's a bridge from the past
There's a bridge made of sorrow
That I pray will not last
There's a bridge made of colors
In the sky high above
And I think that there must be
Bridges made out of love
I can see her in the distance
On the river's other shore
And her hands reach out in longing
As my own have done before
And I call across to tell her
Where I believe the bridge must lie
And I'll find it
Yes, I'll find it
If I search until I die
When the bridge is between us
We'll have nothing to fear
We will run through the sunlight
And I'll meet her halfway
There's a bridge made of colors
In the sky high above
And I'm certain that somewhere
There's a bridge made of love

Meet me on the Equinox

New Moon update!

Meet me on the Equinox, a song from the band "Death Cab For Cutie" has been confirmed as one of the New Moon Soundtracks! I haven't heard of this band before but let's just expect that they're one of the best band out there! The people behind New Moon will never choose them if they're just going to wreck the whole production!

Fashion Alert #1

HELP!

And so I had just blogged a while ago about the Senior Fashion Walk which took place just this afternoon. And for the next Fashion Show, our class, The Juniors will be on the spotlight. Our concept will be 1970's fashion. I need help from the experts! I badly need comments and suggestions! Your brilliant ideas are highly needed! I need to have some ideas on what to wear! Please help! pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaseeeee!!!

I ♥ Wonder Boys!

W-O-N-D-E-R-B-O-Y-S!!!

kyaaa!! I love you guys!

We had our Culminating Activity and Senior Elimination Round in Fashion Walk this afternoon. I was not able to eat my lunch on time due to the fact that the whole Junior level was really busy practicing for the dance interpretation contest at 1:00pm. We were all unprepared for the contest. To God's mercy, we bagged the first place in the category! We were all very happy and very much over-whelmed by the results and to our performance as well. We didn't expect things will turn out so fine! What's more? Even one of the judges cried upon witnessing our performance. According to the judge, he was touched!

And for the Fashion Walk, 6 lucky finalists were chosen! Their concept was 1960's fashion! I admit, I was impressed on some of the Seniors. But I was feeling very sleepy and bored as the competition went deeper. I was a bit asleep on my seat as the show went on! I just found my senses back when I heard the a very popular song these days. It was some guys from our class who had an intermission number on stage. I screamed out loud until my throat ripped. Wonder boys! I was the one who gave the whole class that idea! Wonder boys! We all screamed! They're the cutest ever! oh! How I love them!

P.S. I only love them on stage!

Piere

Kyaaa! così felice! Piere Thank you! It made my day!

Now, for the second time, I was deeply astonished by this Piere guy. He's so much friendly and I never expected things will be great as what is happening these days. He's so much talented. And as a matter of fact, he's really so down to Earth.

For the first time ever, I have received a personalized New Moon comical drawing from Piere! And he made it himself! I was very much happy that I would like to run towards him and give him a massive hug! Saying millions of thank you through internet will never be enough to send my greatest gratitude to him. It was a very nice piece of art.. and it has my name written on it.. which made it very special. I will never ever forget Piere.

in touch with italy

I'm currently bored and got nothing much to do and so I decided to write a blog about my newly found friend from Italy.

I was just surfing around Facebook when I was invited for a friend request by the name of Piereluigi Diana. He's Italian and He's been looking for English people to improve his English. But unluckily he found me and I am not American, at least. But I'm glad I could speak English very well and It's a pleasure to be able to help someone. Aside from helping, we can also gain friendship! I am very much pleased to have friends from different countries. Onion Head Pictures, Images and Photos

And more about this Italian friend, I was amazed to discover something about this Piere Guy, which I did without purpose. Want to more about it? Follow the link: click here

I don't really understand everything on that blog but I'm pretty sure he's very talented. onion head Pictures, Images and Photos

Pain

So yeah! I just had my "dental braces" the other day. And I was glad I finally have it! I was really excited and very much delighted. I had my appointment with the dentist at 2pm but I was entertained at around 3pm! It took us 3hours to finish the whole thing.

Several hours after, I felt pain on my teeth! emoticon Pictures, Images and Photos I was really teary-eyed. I didn't expect it would hurt this much! My teeth are under the adjustment stage. I simply hope the pain won't last longer. Damn pain! I was not able to enjoy a pizza after our Ballet class with my ballet mates. It hurts even when I'm eating. And I'm currently starving to death right now. My stomach has been growling for hours, but I just can't enjoy my meal! Damn pain! onion head Pictures, Images and Photos

iBlog

okay! so here's the story.

I know it's kinda weird blogging in the middle of the night. And it's kinda making me nervous right now blogging at this period. I might get caught by one of our house members wide awake and still facing my ass on the computer. But I just can't find my way to the dreamland and I thought that maybe blogging my feelings would help me out! I have been crying for these past few minutes. I'm currently nervous for tomorrow's Periodical Examination in our Folk dance. I was not able to supply the required costume for our exam and I hate to fail any tests. I'm currently having a tough relation with my mom- and as of now, I hate her! She has been the most supportive mom ever on my elementary years. But now, I don't know what happened to her that she's losing that attitude. She's been unfair to me and her treatment was really different. I hate her!

I just hope that things would fall in place tomorrow!

escaping the impossible!

We can never run from reality! Even how hard we try to escape from it- even if we cross a mountain and swim the depths of the ocean, we can never escape from the fact that reality is reality! Time will come we'll just get tired from running. angel running smiley Pictures, Images and PhotosBetter if we just take the courage to face the consequences of reality. Better if we look at the positive and negative sides. Better if we just widen our perspective and learn from our mistakes.

I have been driving my life for 14 years since the day I took my first breath on the year 1994. It feels odd to escape from some things. "I have been escaping from my obligations and responsibilities." I'm one of the ordinary girls who's not only oblige on her academic standings. I'm not the typical-school-girl-and-the-typical-girl-next-door type but I'm the busy-as-a-bee-school-girl-who-doesn't-focus-only-on-her-studies-but-also-in-her-arts-activities. yeah! that's it! Kinda beyond the normal teens who are free to go out on Friday and Saturday nights, bond with their peers. I have a lot of obligations at school and in my dancing career. There was one point where I want to give up this career. Sometimes, I just wanna feel normal and relaxed. Just like the normal teens. I don't want to be pressured in both fields. I want to feel free! onion head Pictures, Images and Photos

Liar! Liar!

Calling all Liars! liar Pictures, Images and Photos

Researchers say liars often appear to be telling the truth. They say it's best to focus on what people actually say and ignore body language.

Forget what you've learned from years of watching cop shows on television. Liars do not have trouble making eye contact. The guilty don't fidget. Culprits don't sweat more. As a matter of fact, research indicates that innocent people tend to be more nervous when they are being questioned because they are very intent on proving that they didn't do it. Liars come in with a script in their heads.

"A lot of different signs of anxiety are mistaken for signs of deception," says Kevin Colwell, a forensic scientist at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. He says research shows that even for the innocent, the whole tenor of an encounter with police can make it harder to remember things accurately. "In interrogation the whole goal is to convince somebody or trick them or coerce them whatever it takes to get them to confess to the crime."

Colwell is on the forefront of a movement to change that mindset and convince law enforcement and other interrogators that encounters with suspects are opportunities to get information, not just a moment to elicit a confession. The concern is that if an interviewer is already convinced that someone committed the crime they are investigating, interviewers stop searching for other answers. And that can lead to mistakes.

This approach, of seeking information rather than a confession, is already well entrenched in Britain. Back in the mid-1980s, after a raft of cases involving false confessions, British courts ruled that officers were no longer allowed to use aggressive techniques — such as lying about evidence — to goad suspects. Interrogations in Britain also have to be taped. This has changed the way UK officers interview a suspect. They chat them up, and start by asking questions to which they already know the answers. The police in Britain say this shift in strategy hasn't reduced the number of confessions.

Colwell and a forensic psychologist at National University in La Jolla, Calif., named Cheryl Hiscock-Anisman have been doing this kind of interrogation research for years. As a general matter, they have found that people who are making up a story prepare an airtight, simple script that is easy to remember. People telling the truth have no script because, basically, they lived the story. So they tend to recall unrelated details and often make mistakes.

Colwell and Hiscock-Anisman have been working on a system that draws that contrast more vividly. And they've been taking their theories out into the field.

They are training police officers across the country to look for verbal patterns instead of fidgets. Just weeks ago they sat down with a group at the San Diego Police Department.

Sergeant Romeo De Los Reyes sat in on the session and, initially, was a little skeptical. "We've always learned that communication is 60- to 90-percent non-verbal," he said. "So this was a different approach to dealing with deception."

Now he sees this approach as another tool for his interview toolbox.

Basically the system asks an interviewer to pay attention to words and verbal cues rather than focusing on non-verbal communication. Hiscock-Anisman suggests interviewers begin with a non-threatening question. "For example, when I was living in Texas and I was running inmates for one of my studies we asked, 'what was the first day like for you in prison?'" she said. She chose that question for two reasons: it was a vivid memory, and it was very likely to get a truthful answer.

"There's no need to lie about your first day in prison, even if you're an inmate," she said.

The first question is designed to give interviewers a baseline of sorts. It gives them an idea of how much detail someone provides when they are telling a story truthfully. Next, interviewers are supposed to ask the person to tell them about the event under investigation. Then they compare the two stories. Does the suspect use the same number of descriptive phrases? Is there the same kind of recall? All these things are very important when trying to turn a gut instinct about whether someone is lying, into something more rooted in specific patterns.

Then comes the harder question, which Hiscock-Anisman says often separates the liars from the truth-tellers. "I say, now what I want you to do is I want you to go back to that time and I want you to describe every single thing that happened but this time I want you to tell me what happened last and work all the way backwards," she said. She laughs. "A liar is going to have a hell of a time, right?"

Try this the next time your teenager comes home late.

The point is, the research indicates that a person who is being honest tends to provide tons of little facts, anecdotal details that you only get from living a situation. In fact, Hiscock-Anisman says she's found that truth-tellers tend to add about 30 percent more detail than people who are lying.

But there are still practical questions on how law enforcement might use this approach. San Diego's De Los Reyes says the system might work with someone who has to decided to talk, but what about someone who is refusing to cooperate? That's unclear. Even so, the San Diego Police Department has asked Colwell and Hiscock-Aninson to come back, to do more training.
